Cody Cut from ‘Dancing’

Cody Linley, at 18 the youngest competitor in “Dancing with the Stars” history and the only partner of Julianne Hough younger than she was, got cut from the show Tuesday, one week shy of the finale (and two days shy of his 19th birthday).

The co-star on “Hannah Montana” was the only competitor who had to adjust to two different professional partners this season — both Hough, who had won the competition twice before, and Edyta Swilinska, who had to fill in the past two week when Hough underwent surgery.

Hough returned this week for a paso doble with Linley that judges called stiff and a salsa that was said to be missing technique. It put Linley at the bottom of the judges’ scoreboard for the third week running.

So on a night when Hough also got to also show off her singing voice, in a song-heavy show that also featured Aretha Franklin and John Legend, Linley was eliminated.

“Words can’t even explain the true amazing growing journey i’ve had on the show,” the teen said when given the news. “I can’t show my appreciation any more to Julainne. I love her so much. This opportunity has been so amazing.”

“I’m so proud of you. I’ve had such an amazing time with you. This has been probably the biggst journey any of these couples have had out here,” Hough said. “I cannot wait to see what his opportunits are going to be after the show.”

Going on to dance the finals next week will be Brooke Burke, who has been nearly always tops in judges scores until last night; NFL star and crowdpleaser Warren Sapp and Lance Bass, who surged in judges scores this week eight points ahead of his nearest competitor.
